Car Shows 2006

On Saturday, August 12th the Roam'n Chariots sponsored their Annual Benefit Show for Hospice.  We owe our success not only to the 203 registered vehicles (from the 1920's to current date), but also to the United Steelworkers District 2 and the many spectators.
Our day was a fun filled one as family and friends joined in on the car show festivities with the Roam'n Chariots and the Steelworkers Annual Picnic.  Popeye joined in our day and there was music by Fred 'Boogie' Brian (formerly Honey Radio fame).  The picnic provided plenty of food at a very reasonable price (50 cents and less) with games and prizes for the children.  Of course our very own Angelo Turrigiano remains the Horseshoe champion.  The horseshoe challenge is on for 2007, his ego is getting really big.
$4,230 was presented to Peggy Phillips of Henry Ford Hospice Downriver Team at our Sears Friday night cruise on September 1st.
Thank you again and please pass the word for Saturday, August 11, 2007!!!!

Cruise Downriver 2006 at Southgate Meijer

Special Thank You to Meijer for their hospitality.
Thank you everyone that participated with us during the Cruise
.  We thank our members and those non-members who joined us after 10 am, for your support and help with maintaining the lots.
A lot of extras happen on the Meijer lot during the cruise.
A Veterans presentation is really an awesome site.  Hosted by Pat D'Anna (Korean Vet) and MC'd by Rockin' Ronnie (Vietnam Vet).  Several veterans from World War II thru present are honored.
Bands are present in the late evening.  There are games for the children and the City of Southgate is always present
.
As the 2007 Cruise nears our preparation are being made for the upcoming cruise with Meijer.

Cruise Telegraph - Gilead Baptist Church
Thanks to members Gary & Linda Baranski we had a very large area for members and non-members to park and view the cruise.   Gilead Baptist Church and their staff have invited us for the past two years, and returning in '07.
There was plenty of spots to set up tents for the shade (boy did we need the shade).  Drive thru car show with goodie bags was not only a success but a lot of fun to watch (and see who over-heated in the 90 deg. temperature, this web-master came real close to joining that crowd - and we are talking a new 383 Stroker Engine).  The trophies were quite large (and eluded me once again), and were awarded at 3 pm.
Pictures below are non-members who enjoyed our location for the cruise.  Thank you to the Gilead Church for your hospitality and the members who took the pictures.
Shows Listed Below Are Run By Members for Charity (Not Club Sponsored)
St. Pius Annual Car Show held on Memorial Day Weekend at the Southgate Civic Center.
Show Director Pat D'Anna has plenty of support from our car club.  His committee not only consists of the members from the church but our members Jim Anteau, John Bauer & Brian Wolff.  Helping hands during the show are Tina Hoch, Glenda Marani, and Jay Rainey.
The show has grown since it's start four (4) years ago.  Plenty to do and see.  Participants and spectators enjoyed the show, hot dogs, pizza, and a bake sale at reasonable prices, and the soft drinks that were sold throughout the show by the Boy Scouts; along with 50/50's, raffle and a silent auction.  Everyone was welcomed to participate in the Southgate Heritage Days and Carnival.
The show was MC'd by well-known DJ Rockin' Ronnie.  The veterans presentation was highlighted by the awesome site of a fly-by of a restored Vietnam era plane.  On ground coordination by Tom Cordek planes co-owner and a member of the Roam'n Chariots.
The shows main goal was to raise money for the heating & cooling system at St. Pius Church.
Plans are being made for Saturday, May 26, 2007 - see updates on 'What's Happening' page.
Kroger Toys For Tots - held on Ecorse & Monroe Streets in Taylor
Members Al & Mary Haas direct this successful show.  Members assisting included Kenny & Nancy Elkins, Roger Kerns, Ted Kertesz, Vince Novack & Dick Pinke.
This show had a lot going on:  Good & reasonably priced food, Taylor Police K-Nine Unit,  music by DJ Sweet Vinnie Novack, plenty of door prizes, raffle, silent auction and many fine rides.
$3,000 was raised and the team members had the thrill of purchasing the toys pictured below.
Look for this show sometime in September 2007!! - Details will be listed on 'What's Happening page'.
This annual Thursday night cruise/show at the Frankenmuth McDonalds has become pretty popular and somewhat of a pre-Auto Fest.  This free cruise/show is hosted by a few of our members; who team up with Tony & Geri (who are not only owners of McDonalds but also the Frankenmuth Auto Fest Show Directors).  As the old saying of ‘standing room only’ goes, that is basically the way it happens during this show;  vehicles were parked all over.  Fun & trophies are always a plus.  For those of you who go up early for the Auto Fest, check it out - it's just a short trip north on Main Street.    Pictured inside is Anthony (Tony & Ger's son) overseeing a smooth operation.
(2007 details will be under 'What's Happening').
Frankenmuth Autofest - always the weekend after Labor Day in September, this 3-Day event has any where from 2,500 to 3,000 vehicles (1978 and older).
Friday nights 'Big Block Party' on Main Street is certainly an awesome site (pictured below).
Saturday after walking the park, it's time for the dance in the pavilion.
Many cars can be seen just driving up and down main street.
Sunday's events top off the weekend with the Ronald McDonald Show, Veterans and awards Ceremony.
Their Motto:  Your Only Responsibility: SHOW UP and HAVE FUN!
